National Delegates represent their council members’ interests during the National Council Session and will vote on proposals and elect the National Board of Directors. 

Hosted by Girl Scouts of the USA every triennium (every three years), the mega event provided attendees with unforgettable experiences as they gained inspiration, tools to empower themselves, and the know-how to lead change in their communities—connecting with some of the most influential women in the world along the way.

How to Participate

What is the National Council Session? toggle arrow

Juliette Gordon Low said it best: “The work of today is the history of tomorrow, and we are its makers.” Girl Scouts convened its first National Council Session in 1915, engaging women in a democratic process five years before the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution granted American women the right to vote.

For more than a century, delegates have come together to use their collective voices—to select leaders and discuss and make decisions on topics on the future direction of Girl Scouts, always with the girls we serve as the focus of these meetings. Girl perspective shapes our decisions.

The overarching goal for the 57th National Council Session is to hold an inspiring and energizing gathering—where we have productive and efficient discussions and make decisions in support of strategic objectives, and elect leaders for the next triennium.

How do I apply to be a delegate? toggle arrow

Applications will open from August 15, 2024 - September 30, 2025.

GSGLA solicits and vets candidates to serve three-year terms as our National Council delegates, and elections are held at our annual meetings. The next election of delegates will be held at our annual meeting in 2025.

What age do you have to be? toggle arrow

The application is available for current adult members, lifetime members and girl members, ages 14-17 (girl members must be 14 years old by April 1, 2025).  

What is the commitment? toggle arrow

If chosen, the GSGLA delegate agrees to participate in all mandatory pre-event trainings and meetings, attend the National Council Session in 2026 in Washington, D.C., and participate in after-event duties. Delegates serve a three-year term, April 2025 – April 2028.

Thank you to our 2023 National Delegates!

Thank you for joining us in Orlando, Florida at the 56th National Council Session, the world’s largest girl-led event for Girl Scouts and young women and everyone who supports them.

Our National Delegates were 24 of over 90 that represented California at our National Council Session. They voted on seven proposals that were presented. In just under three days, our delegates took decisive action, debated, listened, and made critical governance decisions; leading to outcomes helping to move our organization forward.
