As CEO of Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles, Theresa Edy Kiene leads the nation's second largest Girl Scout council, with 54,492 total members, 159 employees, 17 properties, and five retail stores. Theresa provides strategic direction and vision for developing and achieving the organization's mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. She focuses on nurturing the next generation of leaders and breaking down barriers through collaborations with after-school programs at Title I schools, community organizations, and traditional and non-traditional troops, including girls in transitional housing.
Recognizing women, girls, and gender-expansive youth as agents of change through empowered leadership development has been a focal point of her career. As Executive Director of the Thrive Center for Human Development in the Graduate School of Psychology for Fuller, she leveraged applied research in the area of Positive Youth Development to inspire young people and the adults who care for them to pursue a sense of purpose and become the fullest expression of who they are. While at Fuller, Theresa became Vice President of Strategic Planning and Change Management in the President's office and was responsible for a new institution wide strategic plan, developing a new education business model to position Fuller for greater financial sustainability.
Theresa's dedication to empowering women and girls extended to consumer goods when she co-founded and led two innovative consumer food brands. Born of a desire to make sure her three daughters had access to healthy snacks, she raised capital financing and grew both into national brands. Before that, Theresa had a successful career as a television executive at CBS, Lifetime Television, Warner Bros, Fox Broadcasting, and 20th TV.
