Introducing something shiny and new – Girl Scouts Exploring Media, or GEM for short!

This exciting program replaces GSGLA's former Girl Scout Advisory Bureau (GAB) and brings fresh new energy to developing media smarts and being a voice for Girl Scouts. As part of this dynamic team, Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador Girl Scouts will represent over 34,000 members across Greater Los Angeles, stepping into the spotlight at council, media, and civic events, and starring in GSGLA marketing campaigns.

Applications for the 2026–2027 GEM Term Are Closed.

Applications for Girl Scouts Exploring Media (GEM) 2027-2028 cohort will open July 2027.

Eligibility Requirements toggle arrow

To be a GEM Girl Scout you must:

Be a registered Girl Scout Cadette, Senior, or Ambassador for the 2026-2027 Girl Scout year.
Apply by the July 31, 2026 deadline.

GEM Membership Commitments toggle arrow

GEM members must:

Commit to a (1) year term from September - August.

Attend all (4) quarterly GEM meetings. The meetings will take place at a Girl Scout Center around the Los Angeles region to make things fair for every Girl Scout.

Apply for at least (1) GEM opportunity offered throughout the term. These will be emailed to GEM Girl Scouts based on opportunity requirements, requests, and specifications. Some opportunities will be on first-come, first-served basis, while others will have a more formal selection process.
Complete at least (1) Content Challenge over the course of the term. Content Challenges can come in the form of social media content, video creation, blogs, or other forms of content requested by the GEM leaders.
Girl Scouts are encouraged to earn at least one relevant Girl Scout badge through your work and exploration of media.
