Prerequisites: Indoor Overnight Training

***This is part 1 of a 2-part training. You must register & complete both sessions in order***

Sessions 1 and 2 are live virtual trainings where you learn the camping fundamentals you will put into practice with your troop. Attendance and completion of both sessions are required to be trained in Camping Skills.

To participate in any overnight camping experience or practice any outdoor skills, at least one adult must be trained in Camping Skills and must be present for all outdoor-related activities. Camping Skills is designed to give you the skills and knowledge needed to prepare your girls for a backyard overnight, service unit encampment, car camping trip, or other event utilizing outdoor skills (fire, knives/hatchets, outdoor cooking, etc.). Please take this class 8-10 weeks before you attend your first camping activity to allow proper planning progression and paperwork approval.

Session 1 Covers: Leave No Trace concepts, the Ten Essential categories of gear needed for safe outdoor adventures, general wilderness safety, emergency procedures, and planning, and knife and hatchet safety. We'll also review the basic information you need to select, use, and maintain your tents, as well as GSGLA safety protocols regarding tent usage.

Zoom Join Link: email will be sent on the day of the training. Use that link to join the webinar at that specific time/date.

Not included in this training: indoor overnights, compartmentalized overnights, and extended travel. For additional training on these topics, complete: Indoor Overnight Training and/or Domestic Troop Travel.

If you have any questions or need help, please contact training@girlscoutsla.org.

Cancellation and Refund Policy:

  • Registration is paid in full at time of registering.
  • Cancellations prior to close of registration are subject to a 10% administration fee.

  • Please allow 2 weeks to process refunds. Refund will be credited back to original form of payment.
