Program Duration:
September - June

Participants:
50 Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador Girl Scouts of the Greater Los Angeles region.

Please note: Girl Scouts are unable to self-register for GEM-a parent or primary caregiver must complete registration by logging into their myGS account and using this private registration link.

Program Components:
Opportunities to grow in the following areas; Public speaking, leadership, media literacy, production/editing, communication, marketing, writing, and confidence.

Desired Outcomes:
This program educates Girl Scouts to speak up and speak out as a voice of GSGLA, one of the largest councils in the Girl Scouts Movement, and learn the importance of media literacy, grow in confidence, and explore media related careers.

Resources and Support:
Access to the plethora of knowledge from GSGLA staff, guest speakers who are experts in their field, workshops, local field trips at entertainment and media companies based in Greater Los Angeles, and more.

Eligibility:
* Must be a registered Girl Scout Cadette, Senior, or Ambassador for the current Girl Scout Year.

Expectations:
* Meetings: GEM meets once per quarter at different GSGLA locations to help make participation accessible for all members across our region. We ask that you do your best to attend all four meetings, as these gatherings are an important part of building community, developing media skills, and being considered for future GEM opportunities. We understand that schedules can get busy, so if you're unable to attend a meeting, we ask that you let us know in advance. Missing one meeting is okay as long as it's communicated ahead of time. These meetings will likely take place in October, December, March, and June and cover a variety of topics within media (personal branding, content creation, podcasting, photography, careers in media, etc.)
* Opportunities: Participate in at least 1 GEM opportunity offered throughout the term. These will be emailed to GEM Girl Scouts based on opportunity requirements, requests, and specifications. Some opportunities will be on first-come, first-served basis, while others will have a more formal selection process.
* Content Challenges: Complete at least 1 Content Challenge over the course of the term. Content Challenges as a piece of media or content (social media content, video creation, blogs, etc.) created by the GEM Girl Scout and submitted to GEM Leads for the use of the Council on their respective marketing platforms.
* Badge/Patch/Council Work: We encourage Girl Scouts to earn at least one Girl Scout media-related badge or patch, or attend a council-hosted media-related program/event within the GEM term.

Opportunities that GEM Girl Scouts Participate In:
* Media Spokesperson and Brand Ambassador for GSGLA and/or GSUSA at a variety of events
