Prerequisite: Indoor Overnight Training, Camping Skills Training - Sessions 1 & 2, and Backpacking Training, Part 1
Location: Girl Scouts Camp Osito, Big Bear. Sleeping location will be outdoors.
Ready to take your experienced hikers on a more advanced trip?
Expert trainers will teach adults the essentials of helping Girl
Scouts venture into remote wilderness areas, carrying all camping gear
on their backs. This is the next step in progression after several
long day hikes, with the intent of spending one or more nights
outdoors, away from urban areas. The trip will be led by volunteer
GSGLA Adult Educators who are experienced backpackers and trained in
Wilderness and Remote First Aid (WRFA). This is actual overnight
backpacking trip to a backcountry destination where you will practice
skills needed for leading a trip with your troop.
Note: Part 2 training is a rigorous physical activity
requiring enough fitness to carry 30 lbs. on one's back for at least 4
miles, including some significant inclines, at up to 8000 ft.
elevation. It is expected that participants train to be physically
ready for this situation and acquire all necessary gear before
attending the actual trip.
Prerequisites:
Indoor Overnight, Camping Skills, and Backpacking Training, Part 1 are
required for this overnight trip. Backpacking Training, Part 1 is
where you will learn how to prepare for your Part 2 training, as well
as how to start planning a trip with your troop. Make sure to register
and attend one of the Backpacking Training, Part 1 webinars based on
your availability.
