Volunteer Conference

Get schooled! The GSGLA Volunteer Conference is a triennial day-long event of fun, networking, and learning. The event features engaging sessions and workshops that cover the gamut of volunteer interests and needs. Includes a luncheon and seminar with keynote speaker, Dr. Dale Atkins.

Enjoy dynamic workshops on how to get girls outdoors, programming ideas, STE(A)M, travel, Girl Scout traditions, and so much more! The day consists of four fun and educational sessions, a luncheon, and an inspiring lecture by Dr. Dale Atkins, a licensed family psychologist, author, and Girl Scout. Stick around after the event for a special social hour where you can get together with other conference attendees and staff while enjoying a signature drink. Keynote Speaker, Dr. Dale Atkins

Dr. Dale Atkins is a licensed psychologist who has more than 40 years of experience as a relationship expert focusing on families, wellness, aging well, life’s transitions, managing stress, and living a balanced, meaningful life. As a child growing up in Northern NJ, Dr. Atkins was an active Girl Scout. Today, she is a sought-after speaker and the author of seven books, most recently, The Kindness Advantage: Cultivating Compassionate and Connected Children.

Dr. Atkins is a recurring guest expert on CNN and regularly appears on NBC’s Today show. She created and hosts Dr. Dale’s Life Issues, broadcast on PBS and cable. She also has a private practice in New York City. 

Dr. Atkins has been recognized locally and nationally for her philanthropic work. An active volunteer in her community, Dr. Atkins and her dog Samson are a certified human-dog therapy duo who participate public school programs and senior centers. She has served as an advisor on several non-profit boards in the areas of literacy, tolerance, wellness, child protection, and community action.

8:00 to 8:50 a.m. - Registration and coffee
9:00 to 9:10 a.m. - Welcome and announcements
9:15 to 10:45 a.m. - Session 1
11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. - Session 2
12:30 to 1:45 p.m. - Lunch with keynote speaker Dr. Dale Atkins
1:45 to 3:15 p.m. - Session 3
3:30 to 5:00 p.m. - Session 4
5:00 to 6:30 p.m. - Social hour

• Visit our many exhibitor tables
• Visit our Girl Scout mobile shop
• Participate in our service unit basket silent auction

Social Hour

We will be hosting a social hour after the event where you can engage with the other conference attendees and staff while enjoying a signature drink. Network with fellow leaders, discuss the workshops you attended, and enjoy drinks and appetizers to close out your experience.

Make your selection to attend the social hour when you register for your sessions. There is no additional cost to attend.

Everyone will receive one ticket for our signature conference drink. The hotel will have a cash bar with a wide selection of non-alcohol and alcoholic drinks, located in the outdoor patio area.

This time will be a great opportunity for you to wish our CEO Lise Luttgens a happy retirement as she closes out her 11 years of dedicated service to Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles!

Parking and Directions

Parking is an additional $9 plus tax per car. Please be prepared to present payment for parking at the event, at the hotel lobby desk. If you pay with the parking attendant outside when exiting you will be charged the full cost of parking. The hotel was able to arrange for a discounted parking fee with the owners of the parking garage for our event.

Event attendees may book their rooms at a special conference rate. Book online or call Marriot Reservations at 1 (800) 228-9290. Please note: The online booking link defaults to the full weekend, but you may adjust that to one day if you prefer. Deadline to book at the discounted conference rate is July 19th, 2019.


How are my workshops determined?

  • When you register, you will select your choices out of the workshops listed for each session. One workshop per session. There are two sessions in the morning and two sessions in the afternoon, with a luncheon in between.
  • If you don’t see your workshop session listed in the drop down when registering this means the workshop is full, so please make another choice from the listed options.

Will the Girl Scout mobile shop be there?

  • Yes, the mobile shop will be there with a wide selection of products to choose from. They will have specific merchandise for the conference along with new items for the coming Girl Scout year.

Will there be a silent auction this conference?

  • Yes, we will again hold a silent auction! Bid on amazing gift baskets donated from service units from around the council.
  • Money raised will go towards buying new shirts for our council trainers, many of whom are our workshop presenters.

Is the Volunteer Conference held at the same venue every time?

  • No, we rotate the venue for the conference through each region. In the past we have held conferences in the City of Industry and Culver City. This year, the conference will be in Woodland Hills.
