Outdoor adventure is a cornerstone to the Girl Scout experience. We provide amazing opportunities for girls to develop and grow a love for the great outdoors. Our summer camps, open to all girls, provide an enriching atmosphere where our happy campers participate in carefully designed, dynamic activities.
What's Girl Scout Overnight Camp?
Overnight camp, also known as resident or sleep-away camp, is the quintessential, high-adventure experience that generations of Girl Scouts have cherished and enjoyed.
Our resident camp encourages and supports girls in developing a
strong sense of self, building practical life skills, cultivating
healthy relationships, promoting cooperation and team building,
appreciating diversity in a multicultural world, and becoming
resourceful problem solvers. There is nothing quite like resident camp
to gear campers up for a love of nature, an interest in the great
outdoors and a self-belief that they can accomplish anything!
Our camp experience is open to all girls in a safe, all-girl
environment. Resident camp runs in five night sessions for six weeks
from June to August. We provide bus transportation from Arcadia, Long
Beach, and Woodland Hills service centers.
Camp Osito Rancho
Camp Osito Rancho, located in Big Bear Lake in the San Bernardino Mountains consists of 160 acres of grounds at an elevation of 7,500 feet. Camp Osito Rancho is GSGLA’s premier summer resident (overnight) camp. Girls get a taste of independence in a safe and fun environment while making new friends, learning new skills, and exploring the great outdoors.
Resident campers: girls in grades 2–8.
Camp Osito Rancho has been operating since 1955. Activities include horseback riding, archery, a high adventure course (high and low ropes course, rock climbing and zip line), canoeing on a private lake, hiking, arts and crafts, and learning about nature. The camp has multiple indoor fireplaces along with an outdoor fire ring, complete with a stage, for evening campfires, songs, and skits.
Summer accommodations at Camp Osito Rancho include a mix of platform tents and cabins. Six units are used for housing campers in summer, each with its own multi-shower, multi-flush toilet block.
Please note: Each platform tent or cabin accommodates 4 campers, and there are 7-8 tents in each unit, which includes a tent for staff (3 Counselors and a Unit Leader). At night, staff do not sleep inside the tents/cabins with campers, but provide close supervision from their tent which is housed within the unit.
Counselors-in-Training, (CIT) Summer Leadership Experience: Girls in grades 9–12 who are interested in a future job as a camp counselor or who want to expand their leadership skills are encouraged to participate in our CIT I (entering grades 9–10) or CIT II (entering grades 11–12) summer leadership experience. The program creates a progression that prepares Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts for roles in youth leadership in and outside of camp. Please view our Resident Camp CIT Youth Leadership Experience document for more information on prerequisites and the application process.
