Outdoor adventure is a cornerstone to the Girl Scout experience. We provide amazing opportunities for girls to develop and grow a love for the great outdoors. Our summer camps, open to all girls, provide an enriching atmosphere where our happy campers participate in carefully designed, dynamic activities.
What's Girl Scout Overnight Camp?
Overnight camp, also known as resident or sleep-away camp, is the quintessential, high-adventure experience that generations of Girl Scouts have cherished and enjoyed.
Our resident camps encourage and support girls in developing a strong sense of self, building practical life skills, cultivating healthy relationships, promoting cooperation and team building, appreciating diversity in a multicultural world, and becoming resourceful problem solvers. There is nothing quite like overnight camp to gear campers up for a love of nature, an interest in the great outdoors and a self-belief that they can accomplish anything!
Camp Osito Rancho offers individual girls six-day, five-night experiences over six weeks in June through July; family and troop camping weekend opportunities are available in August.
*The registration fee for Osito’s June and July overnight camps include round-trip bus transportation from our Arcadia, Inglewood, Long Beach and Woodland Hill Service Centers.
Camp Lakota runs three-day, two-night troop camping experiences from June to August and also offers six-day, five-night experiences over four weeks for individual high school aged girls.
*Please note that only self-transportation is available at
Camp Osito Rancho
Camp Osito Rancho, is our American Association Accredited camp located in Big Bear Lake in the San Bernardino Mountains at an elevation of 7,500 feet. Camp Osito Rancho provides girls a summer of adventure no like other! Girls get a taste of independence in a safe and fun environment while making new friends, learning new skills, and exploring the great outdoors.
Girls entering grades 2–8 participate in weekly themed programs centered around activity options including horseback riding, participating in our high adventure course (high and low ropes course, rock climbing and zip line), canoeing on our private pond, swimming in our pool, hiking trails throughout our 160 acre property, enjoying arts and crafts and learning about nature. Exciting evening activities include campfires, all-camp activities and outdoor cook-outs.
Older Girl Experience (OGE); Counselor-in-Training (CIT)
Girls in grades 9–12 can choose between two programs tailored specifically for our high school campers! Girls who are interested in daily trips to Big Bear Lake to kayak, boat or stand-up paddle, can select one of our new weekly Older Girl Experience (OGE) sessions. Girls who are interested in a future job as a camp counselor or who want to expand their leadership skills are encouraged to participate in our CIT I (entering grades 9–10) or CIT II (entering grades 11–12) three-week summer leadership experience. The program creates a progression that prepares Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts for roles in youth leadership in and outside of camp. Please view our Overnight Camp Leadership Experience document in the Camp Guide for more information on prerequisites and the application process.
Summer accommodations at Camp Osito Rancho include a mix of platform tents and cabins, each unit with its own multi-shower, multi-flush toilet block.
Please note: Each platform tent or cabin accommodates 4 campers, and there are 7-8 tents in each unit, which includes a tent for staff (3 counselors and a unit leader). At night, staff do not sleep inside the tents/cabins with campers but provide close supervision from their tent which is housed within the unit.
