What is FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC)?
FTC is a robotics competition for high-school students and resembles a sporting event, in which robots compete in a 2½ minute match. In addition to competition, teams are judged on team spirit, creativity, cooperation with other teams, and outreach efforts. Learn more about FTC at www.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/FTC.

What is the Robots!3 time commitment?
Each team and their mentors will determine meeting dates and times. Approximately 8 hours per week is recommended, and more frequent meetings may be necessary just prior to competitions. The FTC season runs from early September through March. Tournaments are one-day events, generally scheduled on Saturdays starting in December.

Girls must complete 6 hours of Core Training and 3-4 hours of specialty training. Specialty training can be in almost any area, from arts to yodeling. After completing training girls are awarded the Program Aide Pin.

Upon completion of a 25-hour internship, girls are awarded the Program Aide Patch. Girls may earn the Program Aide recognitions once as a Cadette Girl Scout and once as a Senior or Ambassador Girl Scout.

Community Service Bars and Community Service Opportunities

Community service is an important part of Girl Scouting. Girl Scouts of all ages can make a difference in their community in hundreds of fun, interesting ways, such as visiting homeless shelters, planting trees, organizing food drives, tutoring young children, and teaching others about recycling and how to “go green.” The possibilities are endless!

Some community service recognitions include:
  • The Cadette Girl Scout Community Service Bar,
  • The Senior Girl Scout Community Service Bar,
  • The Ambassador Girl Scout Community Service Bar
  • The Community Service Bar for Contributions to Girl Scouting

The Cadette,Senior and Ambassador Girl Scout Community Service Bars allow girls to work with any organization, while The Community Service Bar for Contributions to Girl Scouting is offered only to girls who volunteer in a Girl Scout organization.

Each pin requires that girls be trained for a minimum of four hours and then that they volunteer for 25 hours. The hours used for these recognitions may not be applied to any other recognitions.
