A collaborative camp weekend featuring the Antelope Valley Society of Women Engineering (AV SWE)! Troops in eighth grade and above camp at the Friends of Amateur Rocketry camp site (near Red Rock Canyon State Park- Mojave Desert). The address and map will be sent with the confirmation packet. Troops can arrive Friday night as early as 5 p.m. for camp set-up. Starting Saturday morning the girls will attend mentoring sessions with the members of the AV SWE to build leadership and interest in STEM careers. We will also feature original Girl Scout STEM programs in engineering, lashing shelters, math, calculating food and budget for groups, science, navigation by stars, and learning the science behind fires (just a few examples). Girls will participate in a fun team-building competition which will require them to engineer their lashing shelters. Saturday afternoon the girls will launch their rockets with the help of the Friends of Amateur Rocketry group. This will all culminate with a campfire Saturday night and members of the local Astronomy Club joining us. Sunday morning you are free to clean up camp, and we will end with a Scout's Own Ceremony along with the AV SWE.
